Fun for Groups

The Chesapeake Boathouse and Route 66 Boathouses can be wonderful destinations for a spring or fall field trip. We look forward to working with teachers to develop field experiences for kids of all ages. Weather permitting, classes can picnic on the lawn; indoor seating for up to 50 is also available.

Our rivers and lakes are living classrooms just waiting for kids to explore the possibilities. Teach them about the geography of the river at school, then bring them downtown for a hands-on experience. See how a dam works. Learn about the history of the Oklahoma River. Then include a civics lesson to show how the community worked together to revitalize this powerful resource.

You’ll find more teaching opportunities inside the boathouses. Physics, anyone? Try out an erg, then calculate the force exerted as the rower pulls his weight on the machine. Study the engineering that goes into a rowing shell. Get excited about rowing and kayaking as fun ways to build physical fitness and keep kids active!

We look forward to welcoming you and your students to the Chesapeake Boathouse on the Oklahoma River or the Route 66 Boathouse at Lake Overholser. Let us know how we can help plan your visit. You can reach us by email or phone (405) 552-4040.
