Kayak
Watch this NewsOK.com video for a taste of kayaking at the Route 66 Boathouse.
Kayaking is another fun way to get on the water and it’s open to everyone ages 8+. Riversport gives kayakers access to some of the best water in the OKC metro including downtown at the Oklahoma River and at Lake Overholser. Youth second through ninth grade can join our RIVERSPORT Youth Learn to Canoe/Kayak to learn the basics of the sport. The RIVERSPORT Junior Canoe/Kayak Team for kids ages 11-18 focuses on Olympic style sprint racing. Adults – join our new Paddle Now! program for group kayak excursions.
Whether you’re new to the sport or an experienced paddler, you’ll find lessons, camps, guided paddles and more to get you involved! New to the sport? Route 66 Boathouse is one of the best places to kayak in central Oklahoma. Quiet waterways are a great place to learn the basics, and you’re just a short paddle away from the scenic Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge where you can enjoy kayaking on your own or with a group.
Located on the east shore of Lake Overholser, Route 66 offers hourly kayak and bike rentals as well as youth sprint kayaking programs. Kayak rentals are also available at the Boathouse District, downtown at the Oklahoma River. Experienced Paddler? You’ll enjoy our guided paddles which include group excursions into the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge and Moonlight Paddles to watch the new moon. Rent one of our kayaks or use your own.
Youth Racing! Kids from across the metro are discovering the excitement of kayak racing with Olympic coach Shaun Caven. Now’s the time to get in a kayak! And both youth and adults will enjoy racing opportunities, like our OKC RIVERSPORT Challenge races held in June. We’re combining kayaking with biking and running for the kids in the youth races, kayaking and running for the adults.
