The Sprint Kayak team began racing last year, posting impressive results at 2009 USA Canoe Kayak Sprint Nationals junior events and at the 2009 Oklahoma City University Boot of the Oklahoma.
U.S. Indoor Kayak Championship
KayakPro USA, the OKC Boathouse Foundation and the Chesapeake Boathouse presented the first U.S. Indoor Kayak Championship, sanctioned by USA Canoe/Kayak, on Saturday, February 20 in Oklahoma City. Kayak athletes from across the nation participated in the inaugural event. Download full results.
In the Men’s Open 500m A Final, Jeff Smoke placed first with Grayson Bourne and Jared McArthur placing second and third. In the Open Men 200m A Final, Jeff Smoke placed first with Grayson Bourne and Cedric Bond taking second and third. In women’s racing, the Open Women 500m Final was won by Maggie Hogan. OKC High-Performance athlete Kaitlyn McElroy placed second and Katie Pfefferkorn placed third.
The Open Women 200m Final was won by Maggie Hogan with Katy Hill and Kaitlyn McElroy placing second and third respectively. Junior Men 500m final was won by Will Roszel. Stanton Collins and Kyle Mechini placed second and third. The Junior Men 200m Final was won by Kyle Mechini with Will Roszel and Stanton Collins placing second and third.
The Junior Women 500m Final was won by Katy Hill. Tatjana Perrin finished second and Genna Ille finished third. In the Junior Women 200m Final, Tatjana Perrin finished first, OKC paddler Genna Ille, second and OKC paddler Bria Cornforth, third.
A one-half day Coaching Conference featuring Frank Garner, ICF Chair Canoe Sprint Development, was held on Sunday along with a meeting of the USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint Racing Committee.
