OKC Crews Fared Well at Crew Classic
Oklahoma City area rowing teams had an impressive weekend at the 39th annual San Diego Crew Classic. More than 100 races were held over the two day regatta that brings more than 4,000 competitors to Southern California. OKC RIVERSPORT Chesapeake Junior Crew sent four boats to the California competition. On the men’s side, the varsity boat faced tough competition in their heat, failing to advance. The men’s junior varsity squad finished second in the petite final out of a field of 11 crews. Both junior women’s boats advanced out of heats. The varsity crew finished 5th in the petite final and the junior varsity women came 6th in their event; they competed in fields of 21 and 22 boats respectively. Additionally, the Oklahoma City University men’s boat finished 5th in the grand final of their event after posting the 2nd fastest time in heats. OU and Central Oklahoma were the only Oklahoma teams to bring home medals. The Sooners finished 3rd in the women’s collegiate varsity event and the Bronchos placed second in the women’s Division 2/3/Club event. The next rowing event for Oklahoma River is the Big 12 Championship hosted by OU on April 28.
