Let’s Move! OKC RIVERSPORT Challenge
More than 100 youth from across the metro area made this a summer to remember with the first Let’s Move! OKC RIVERSPORT Challenge held June through August, 2010.
We are excited about First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to get America’s kids moving, and we’re bringing it to life in Oklahoma with the OKC RIVERSPORT Challenge.
The RIVERSPORT Challenge invites Oklahoma City youth ages 8-12 to get moving with multi-sport activities. The 10-week program has kids participating in running, biking and kayaking at the Chesapeake Boathouse, 725 S. Lincoln Blvd. and the Route 66 Boathouse on Lake Overholser, 3115 E. Overholser Dr. We provide everything – bikes, kayaks, and volunteer coaches to make sure every child has a blast. And it’s all FREE!
At the end of this first year of the program, the kids raced for fun and medals at a special youth event during the USA Canoe/Kayak National Championship, August 28, 2010, on the Oklahoma River. Watch for details about next year’s program.
OKC RIVERSPORT Challenge Sessions
Participants meet one day per week from 6-7 PM throughout the summer at one of two convenient locations: the Route 66 Boathouse at Lake Overholser or the Chesapeake Boathouse on the Oklahoma River, downtown.
