Discover Rowing

Discover Rowing is a 90-minute introduction to this exciting sport! You’ll learn basic information about rowing shells, oars and rowing technique. Then you’ll have a chance to give it a try – in a very safe, very flat-bottomed rowing barge. It’s a great way to explore rowing – even better when you schedule it with a bunch of friends.

Junior Learn-to-Row

Interested in learning to row? We’ll teach you how! At the beginning of the Chesapeake Junior Crew fall and spring rowing seasons (September and January), the first two weeks are dedicated to teaching new rowers. Plus we offer sessions throughout the summer. You’ll learn the basics of rowing and meet other youth rowers from across the metro, then see if you want to join the team. Email us to learn more.

Adult Learn to Row

RIVERSPORT Learn to Row classes introduce you to rowing in a fun and easy-going atmosphere. You’ll learn the basics of both sculling (two oars) and sweep rowing (one oar), and become familiar with the equipment and basic skills you’ll need to get on the water safely.

The lessons begin on a land trainer, then progress to the rowing barge – a wide, flat-bottomed boat that allows you to learn rowing techniques with confidence. You’ll also spend time sculling in a very stable rowing shell. You have a choice of weekday or weekend classes as noted below. Follow the links for current class dates. Appropriate for ages 18+.

Early Morning Adult LTR Classes [class dates]
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs > 6-7:30 a.m., two consecutive weeks $125

Mid Morning Adult LTR Classes [class dates]
Mon, Wed, Thurs > 9-11 a.m., two consecutive weeks $125

Evening Adult LTR Classes [class dates]
Mon, Tues, Thurs > 5:45-7:45 p.m., two consecutive weeks $125

Weekend Adult LTR Classes [class dates]
Friday, 5:45-7:45 p.m. orientation (first week only) Saturdays/Sundays 12:30-3:30 pm, two consecutive weekends $150

Private Coaching

Whether you want a few private lessons to hone your skills, or you just prefer working one-on-one, private coaching is also available. The boathouse has several coaches who are approved to provide individual or small group coaching. Private coaching can be scheduled by contacting us at (405) 552-4040 or sending an email.
