Collegiate Teams
The Oklahoma River is home to four growing collegiate rowing programs. Collegiate rowing in Oklahoma City started at Oklahoma City University in 2000. The school has since pioneered the country’s first collegiate sculling program with athletes focusing on sculling and sweep, preparing them for elite rowing at the national and international level. Today OCU remains the only school in the nation with a varsity sculling program and is also the only school in the region offering both men’s and women’s rowing as a varsity sport.
OCU was joined on the Oklahoma River in 2001 by the University of Oklahoma coed club team. OU now offers an NCAA Division I women’s rowing program, in addition to the coed club team. And, the University of Central Oklahoma NCAA Division II women’s rowing program started in 2007, to further build on the growing tradition of collegiate rowing in Oklahoma City.
