OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 27, 2024) – RIVERSPORT has added two new Spring Break youth camps to its spring programming. Camps will take place March 18-22 and will introduce kids to the Olympic sport of canoe/kayak and eSports.
“Canoe/kayak offers two disciplines, flatwater sprint and whitewater slalom,” said Mike Knopp, RIVERSPORT’s Executive Director. “Kids will start out on flatwater during our Spring Break camp, and for those who are interested, they can go on to learn the basics of slalom during our summer camps.”
“Our eSports camps focus on Virtual Reality versions of our sports along with traditional gaming,” Knopp said. “It’s great for kids to see how they can play electronic games while also actually being pretty active.”
Campers can choose from two sessions – a half-day Paddling Camp at Lake Overholser and a full-day Healthier Way to eSports Camp at RIVERSPORT’s Whitewater Center. All equipment is provided, and no previous experience is necessary.
- Paddling Camp (Half-Day, Ages 8-13) – Campers will learn recreational kayaking skills plus water safety. The Spring Break session includes recreational and competitive sprint kayaking as well as stand up paddle boarding.
- Healthier Way to eSports Camp (Full-Day, Ages 9-14) – Campers will learn a healthier way to play by boosting their gaming skills and trying new sports. The Spring Break session includes gameplay training and competition with activity breaks such as VR rowing, VR kayaking, skiing and climbing.
Spots are filling up fast, so early registration is encouraged. Registration for RIVERSPORT summer camps is also now open. Visit riversportokc.org/camps to learn more.
